SUMMARY:Panthrendu Villakku
DESCRIPTION:“Panthrandu vilakku” is being observed in temples with great fervour and enthusiasm to commemorate the ‘Ten Avatars of Lord Vishnu’. The first avatar was ‘Matsya’ or the ‘fish’ from the satya yuga. Lord Vishnu took the form of a fish. To save the earth from the Apocalypse\, He took his boat to the new world along with one of every species of plant and animal. The second incarnation of Vishnu was Koorma or Tortoise. It is believed that the mount Mandara\, while the Devas and the Asuras were trying to churn out the Amruth or Elixir from the ocean of milk\, began to sing down. Immediately Lord Vishnu took the form of a tortoise\, bore the weight of the mountain on Him\, and stopped the Mountain from going down. The third incarnation is Varaha or the boar. According to the epic Hiranyaksha a demon King\, took the earth and carried it away to the bottom of the cosmic ocean. Lord Vishnu took the form of a boar and had battle with Hiranyaksha. This battle continued for a Thousand years. Eventually the Varaha won the battle and brought back the earth to its place is the Universe. <<Read More>>

SUMMARY:Thiruvonam (Foundation Day)
DESCRIPTION:Onam which is the state festival of Kerala falls in the malayalam month of Chingam (First Onam is on Friday\, 20th August\, Thiruvonam 2021 will be celebrated on Saturday\, 21st August. Third and Fourth Onam falls on Sunday\, 22nd August\, and Monday 23rd\, August respectively). Onam marks the commemoration of Vamana\, Lord Vishnu’s Avatar and the homecoming of King Mahabali. In fact Thiruvonam is Vamana Jayanthi.Often the story is misinterpreted and depicted in a wrong way. Vamana never pushed Mahabali to Pathalam with his foot. Also Mahabali is shown as a comic character with a huge belly. \nAs per Srimad Bhagavatham Mahabali was born to King Virochana who was the son of Prahlada and was a devotee of Lord Vishnu.Sage Sukracharaya was his guru. Mahabali was a powerful king and once when Devas came to attack him he defeated them and conquered heaven. As Devas did not have any place to stay they went and met Lord Vishnu and told him about their plight. Lord Vishnu himself agreed to protect the place. \nLord Vishnu was born as Vamana Murti to Sage Kasyapa and Aditi Devi. The young Vamana proceeded to the place where King Mahabali was performing great Ashvamedam Yajnam. On seeing Vamana the King welcomed and offered him a seat and as per custom and washed Vamana’s feet. King Mahabali lavishly offered the young bramachari whatever he wished to have like gold\, land etc. There was some arrogance in Mahabali’s words when he made the offer. Vamana was very pleased to hear the words of the King. \nVamana said that he only needed three strides of land to do tapas.King Mahabali was surprised to hear this and said he was capable of giving much more as he was the ruler of the three worlds. Vamana again reiterated that he wanted only three strides of land.Mahabali when he came to know the young boy is not going to change his mind\, was ready to offer the 3 strides of land. \nSage Sukracharya preempted King Mahabali as he knew the young boy was none other than Lord Vishnu and Mahabali was going to loose everything. The king went ahead with the offering as he had already given the word. After the initial rituals Mahabali asked the young boy to take 3 strides of land. \nLord Vamana who appeared as a young boy\, now started growing in size. The size was so huge that Vamana measured the whole earth with one step. With the second step he covered the heavens. There was no place for the third step. When Vamana asked where to keep the third step King Mahabali gracefully showed his head and asked Vamana to step on his head. \nLord Vishnu was now very much pleased with Mahabali as he had overcome his ego which was the cause of his pride and arrogance. Then Lord Vishnu offered Suthalam a place which is free from all difficulty to King Mahabali and Lord Vishnu himself agreed to protect the place.

SUMMARY:Ganesh Chaturthi
DESCRIPTION:It is believed that on Ganesa Chaturthi day\, considered to be the most auspicious day for Lord Ganesa\, if one were to pray to HIM sincerely\, He would remove all our obstacles. \nOne of the main purposes of the Chaturthi nine day celebrations is to give an extra boost of divine energy/sakti to Sri Maha Vallabha Ganapati. Activities like performance of rituals\, chanting of mantras etc. infuse the Deity with divine šakti; and the more these are done\, the more the Deity is charged with divine energy\, which can be tapped by devotees as needed. Each mantra invokes the šakti of its related form\, along with its related personalities and capacities. The vibrations created from the chanting of mantras bring about positive changes to both the chanter and the listener. \nKeeping in mind the diverse ways in which people worship HIM\, our wise sages have built in different rituals into our religion\, thereby providing something of interest for everyone to participate in and connect with divine powers\, which is the ultimate aim of all rituals. Whether one participates in the repetitive chanting of the mantras (japa)\, feasts his/her eyes on the holy bath (abhishekam) being offered or on the special decoration (alankãram) of the day\, dances along with the prãkãra utsavam or the chariot (ratha yãtra)\, sings devotional songs (bhajans)\, serves fellow-devotees in numerous ways as opportunities present themselves in our Temple or just enjoys the melodious music of the nãgaswaram\, all these different avenues lead us to the same goal – arresting the agitations of our mind and deriving serenity while focusing on Lord Ganesa. \nPlease come in large numbers and participate in any activity that interests you and enjoy your connection with Lord Ganesa.

SUMMARY:Janmashtami
DESCRIPTION:Krishna Janmashtami (Sanskrit: कृष्णजन्माष्टमी\, romanized: Kṛṣṇajanmāṣṭamī)\, also known simply as Krishnashtami\, Janmashtami\, or Gokulashtami\, is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Krishna\, the eighth avatar of Vishnu. In certain Hindu texts\, such as the Gita Govinda\, Krishna has been identified as supreme God and the source of all avatars. Krishna’s birth is celebrated and observed on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the dark fortnight (Krishna Paksha) in Shravana Masa (according to the amanta tradition) or Bhadrapada Masa (according to the purnimanta tradition). This overlaps with August or September of the Gregorian calendar. \nSource: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krishna_Janmashtami

SUMMARY:Karkida Vavubali
DESCRIPTION:Maha Navami (Mahanavami) or Durga Navami is celebrated as the victory of good over evil. It is the last day of battle between goddess Durga and demon Mahishasura. Maha Navami begins with Mahasnan (holy bath)\, followed by prayers to goddess Durga or Maa Durga. It is believed that on Maha Navami goddess Durga is worshipped as Mahisasuramardhini – which literally means the slayer of the buffalo demon or mahishasura. On Maha Navami\, Durga Maa made her final assault on demon Mahishasura\, and the following morning\, on Vijayadashami\, triumphed over him. In fact\, Vijayadashami gets derives its name from the Sanskrit and Hindi words Vijaya meaning victorious or triumphant\, and Dashami\, meaning tenth day. Vijayadashami is also celebrated as Dussehra\, which too derives its name from the Sanskrit words Dush meaning bad or evil\, and Hara which means defeating or destroying – thereby signifying the victory of good over evil. \nKarkkidaka Vavu Bali

In the rest of India\, a related festival called Kartik Purnima is celebrated in a different date. \nMany legends and lyrical poetry have grown around this star. They are Dula\, Nitatni\, Abhrayanti\, Varshayanti\, Meghayanti and Chipunika. He is therefore called Karthikeya\, the incarnation of Lord Shiva as his second son after Lord Ganesha.
